This four-hour workshop offers a thorough review of employer sponsored benefits for plan participants under the age of 65. The content has been specifically designed for HR practitioners with approximately two years of experience.

  • Major laws impacting benefits design and administration
  • Effective benefits administration
  • Role of the Benefits Professional and the HR Professional in Benefits administration
    • Alternative methods of organizing benefits administration
    • Use of vendors, brokers, service providers
    • Automation
    • Sources of competitive benefits survey info
    • Evaluating effectiveness of benefits programs
    • Communicating benefits programs

Join this inaugural OCCABA training session to hear Lee Exton, CEBS, Managing Director, Venbrook and Janet Vreeland, CEBS, Principal, Mercer as they bring employee benefits to life as a key component to a competitive Total Rewards strategy.  

Please arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 for breakfast.  Instruction will start promptly at 8:00 a.m.  We will finish at noon. Note that the room may be locked if you arrive prior to 7:30.

When you arrive at the Main Gate of First American (1st First American Way, Santa Ana, CA 92707), the security guard will have your name on file. The workshop will be in Garden Room 2, which is in Building 2. The security guard will be able to provide specific parking instructions to get you to Building 2.

About our speakers:

 Lee Exton, CEBS, Managing Director

Lee Exton is Managing Director of Employee Benefits at Venbrook Insurance Services. His responsibilities include supervision of the employee benefits resource team, product review, and the sale of new and renewal programs including medical, dental, disability and various other employee benefits.

Lee has extensive experience helping corporate clients develop strategic plans aimed at maximizing benefit value and managing cost. He evaluates alternative delivery and financing arrangements to control costs and healthcare quality and enhance the overall value of benefits programs. He specializes in developing custom programs for employer organizations of all sizes.

Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Irvine. In addition, he has served as an instructor for the Wharton School’s Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) program.

Lee loves playing guitar and is the President of a local Toastmasters chapter.  Lee met his wife Gayle while working for Art Linkletter, one of Disneyland’s opening day announcers.

 Janet Vreeland, CEBS, Principal

Janet is responsible for new business and client relationship development and provides strategic sales consultation, deploys Mercer resources and monitors work quality and service delivery for employer organizations of all sizes.

Prior to joining Mercer’s Southern California Growth Team in 2014, Janet served in executive leadership roles in the Southwest where her responsibilities included sales management, new business production, client consulting, and producer management.

She serves on the Board of Directors for OCCABA and as a National Partner to the CFO Alliance in OC.

Janet began her career working in new business development and client management with Prudential and CIGNA and not for profit healthcare organization Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. She graduated from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX with a BA and the dual majors of Spanish and Mass Communications and is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist.

She loves living in Long Beach, CA with her husband Bob and their rescue dog, Buddy and cat, Tip Toe.
