While DEI has long been an important business and societal topic, 2020 amplified the need to include specific and measurable DEI initiatives in the workplace. How and what DEI analytics employers look for and measure in their Total Rewards programs varies greatly. Some components of a Total Rewards program such as compensation and Pay Equity have a well-established DEI framework while others such as health plans are in the formative stages. Participants will hear from three Mercer thought leaders each with expertise related to DEI analytics and their development and application to Retirement Plans, Employee Benefits and Compensation.

Our speakers:

Mustafa Faizani is a Partner and leads Mercer’s Wealth Business for the West Market. Mustafa has over 20 years of experience in financial services, investments and retirement consulting and has advised clients on investments and retirement issues across North America, Asia and Africa.

In his prior role, Mustafa Faizani was the CEO Mercer’s IMETA region (India, Middle East, Turkey & Africa) and a member of International Executive Leadership team. Working closely with the IMETA Leadership Team, Mustafa set strategic direction and led profitable growth across the diverse, high-potential countries in Mercer’s portfolio, while identifying opportunities to optimize the firm’s geographic footprint across the Middle East and the African continent.

Before joining Mercer, Mustafa worked for 11 years in client and market facing roles including as Vice President for Retirement Plan Services at Union Bank of California.

Mustafa holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and BBA from the University of Houston. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) with the America Society of Pension Actuaries. He currently resides in Villa Park, CA.

Serafina Miller, GBA is a Principal with Mercer's health & benefits business. She partners with employers to ensure their employee benefits programs integrate with compensation strategies and business objectives, as well as aligning with organizations’ broader diversity, equity and inclusion strategies. She works with clients to develop cost-effective plan designs, evaluate funding and risk transfer alternatives, select appropriate vendors, determine administrative requirements, identify outsourcing opportunities, and develop communication strategies and implementation schedules.

Kevin Poff, MBA is a Partner and the Leader of Mercer’s Career business in Southern California. Based in Los Angeles, he has provided total rewards, workforce analytics, talent management, performance management, and workforce optimization advice to public and privately-held organizations for over 15 years.

Kevin has helped his clients build future-ready job architectures to deliver a more attractive and retentive employee experience. Recent engagements include:

  • For a entertainment-related business process outsourcing organization, Kevin helped define an enterprise-wide approach to defining a new organization structure, size, reporting relationships; he also developed the job architecture that underpinned the go-forward organization model
  • Working with the innovation arm of a global CPG company, Kevin helped define the “ways of working” that would drive financials outcomes through the use of an agile resource pool and simplified career framework
  • Looking at spans and layers for a global technology organization, Kevin collaborated with the client on how to facilitate a “right-sizing” initiative; project goal was aimed at re-directing strategic resources into the organization’s growth priorities and protecting the current-state financial structure
  • Leading a pay equity assessment for a Southern California-based organization, Kevin helped his client determine near-term pay remediation needs as well as, using the same analytics, diagnose root cause processes to avoid further remediation needs

After graduating from UCLA, Kevin started with Mercer in 2006 as an analyst and left in 2010 to attend the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern. After obtaining his MBA with distinction, Kevin rejoined Mercer in 2012.
